Food for Thought (#6)
“Let your soul do the singing.” — Ma Rainey (to Billie Holiday)
…
So, out of curiosity, I decided to pay attention to the songs I found myself singing this week. Not the songs I was practicing or learning. Not the songs I decided to sing.
No, the other ones. You know, the ones you’re humming (not so) quietly when someone says to you “Are you singing?” (Hmmm … Maybe this only happens to me? *smile*)
Here’s the list. (Let’s not read too much into it, okay?)
- Monday: erm … don’t remember … oh wait! The Toys R Us theme song (the old school version)
- Tuesday: I’m Gonna Laugh You Right Out of My Life by Nat King Cole (such a sad, pretty song)
- Wednesday: Mambo Italiano — Rumor is composer Bob Merrill wrote this song on a toy xylophone
- Thursday: Tommy Roe’s “Sweet Pea” (Oh, sweet pea, c’mon and dance with me … you can sing along here.)
- Friday: I Want You To Want Me (by Cheap Trick)
Happy Friday!
(I apologize if you are unable to stop humming these ditties today. *smile*)
The one that I find myself singing — year-round, for no apparent reason — is “Frosty the Snowman.”
