Food for Thought (#18)

“Before you agree to do anything that might add even the smallest amount of stress to your life, ask yourself: What is my truest intention? Give yourself time to let a yes resound within you. When it’s right, I guarantee that your entire body will feel it.” — Oprah Winfrey

The corollary being — If it isn’t right, you feel that, too.

I have a friend who recently cut off her waist-length dreads. She said it was because she was making an effort to remove anything that felt burdensome from her life. After they were gone, she said she felt lighter — figuratively and literally.

How about you? What can you put down or, better yet, decide not to pick up?

Sometimes I wish I could put down some extra volunteer responsibilities I’ve taken on (whine: but it felt right *at the time*), but I don’t feel I can because other people are relying on me.

  2. @Joanna,

I hear that! It’s amazing how quickly doing good can fill up your free hours. I read a post somewhere (maybe Christine Kane? or a guest author on her blog?) about how in some cases it might be great to step aside and let someone who really WANTS to do a project, pick up the torch. But as one overly responsible gal to another, I feel your pain. *smile*

Always good to see your name in the comments. (I assume this means my feed is working again?)

    singingly,
