Food for Thought (#74)

“[S]tudy the music profoundly … music is like the ocean, and the instruments are little or bigger islands, very beautiful for the flowers and trees.”
– Andres Segovia

P.S. I’m on blog sabbatical (visiting the Canary Islands) until the new year. If you start to miss me, please peruse the archives or you can start thinking about your keyword for 2011. *smile* Happy New Year!

Solstice Lunar Eclipse

“Every time I go  into the darkness, I return with fistfuls of jewels.” – Barbara McAfee

As many of you know, tonight is the Winter Solstice (yay! more sunlight soon!). What you may not know is that tonight is also a lunar eclipse. It is unlikely that we will ever see this combination of events again in our lifetimes.

If you’re awake, bundle up, go outside and look.

(Maybe even sing something. *wink*)

Ode to The Blizzard

Posted by on Dec 12 2010 | Songtaneous

During the many hours I spent outside shoveling and moving my car this weekend due to the snow emergency*, I came up with the revised lyrics to this winter classic.

Sung to the tune of “Let it Snow:”

“Oh, the weather outside’s horrendous,
The amount of snow — stupendous*,
The snow levels have reached their top …

Make it stop, make it stop, make it stop!

My gas tank is nearly empty,
But the snow? Of that, there’s plenty,
And since I still have to shop …

Make it stop, make it stop, make it stop!

Well, after you dig out your car,
You still have to turn it about
Yay! you’ve finally reached the odd side
But, how will you ever get out?

At last it seems that it’s slowing,
Time for more shoveling and snow blowing,
Now the temps have begun to drop …

Make it stop, make it stop, make it stop, Please …
Make it stop, make it stop, make it stop!”

*Minneapolis received 20 inches of snow on December 11, 2010.
