Spontaneous Song a Day

Song a day project, November 2010

In November 2010, I undertook an improvisation project to record and share a 3-minute solo every day.

I had the following goals:

  • Post a 3-minute recording for each day of the month in November
  • Interact with my blog readers as a singer (instead of just as a writer)
  • Observe my art half-way through a year-long vocal improv class
  • Learn something

Sarah (and Friends) by Starlight

Some of the most fun during my time in Italy was the “musical entertainment” between courses at dinner. Of course, we sang for each other. One night, Henk brought his guitar and we had an actual sing-along, but most nights we just improvised pieces and taught each other songs.

Following is a (very poorly lit) video of an improvised piece near the end of the week. True, you can’t really see us, but you can hear us. *smile*

By the way, I’m singing with my friends Jurg (to my left), “guest director” Lorenzo, my roommate Sarah (to my right) and Noemi (to Sarah’s right, heard but never seen *smile*).

A Singing Summer

Posted by on Sep 27 2010 | Audio, Listening, Songtaneous

I’ve been meaning all summer to share some of the music I’ve made over the past few months. (But, I have been so busy making it that I never get to posting it.)

But since I have to admit that summer might actually be over (sniff, sniff), I figured I’d better share some snippets.

Enjoy!

Doing a singing exercise in Italy. I start the pattern. My friend Kees is the soloist.

Yes, yes, I know. The sound quality is HORRIBLE. But, I so enjoyed what my accompanist Matt Curney did on the piano, I’m posting it anyway. *smile*
